The Millsaps softball team travelled this weekend to play a three-game series at The University of the South, and absolutely dominated the Tigers to win the first two games, scoring a combined 34 runs. While the Majors’ offense was firing on all cylinders, the true highlight of the weekend was ace Cassidy DeNoon’s perfect game on Saturday.

DeNoon, in the first contest of Saturday’s double-header, managed to retire 18 straight batters while striking out seven in six innings pitched. Her performance did not come as a shock to the team, however. DeNoon nearly pitched a perfect game against nationally ranked Birmingham Southern in a 1-0 win back in March. She entered this contest with a stellar 2.43 earned run average, and is undoubtedly a key driving force for the Lady Majors, who now hold a 20-19 record.

While DeNoon’s performance probably would have been enough to secure a victory for the Majors on its own, the offense added a wealth of insurance throughout the game. The Majors scored 11 runs in the first game, and a whopping 23 in the second. Megan Murray, Sarah Scales and Rayne Gravat all produced runs for the Majors, as Murray recorded a season high five RBI’s and Scales and Gravat each recorded four. Freshman pitcher Mary Claire Shepard secured her third win of the season in the second game on Saturday with the Majors’ 23-3 victory.

The Majors will look to continue their momentum into the Southern Athletic Association tournament, which starts on Friday, April 22, in Bartlett, Tennessee.
