The Millsaps women’s lacrosse team exhibited a high level of skill at its game March 22, as it ousted the Hendrix Warriors 17-9. This particularly young squad called on the leadership of several upperclassmen, including Theresa Woehnker and Katie Iskra. Katie Iskra led the team in scoring and ground balls, with five goals and eight ground balls on the game—bringing her season total to 17 goals and 27 ground balls. JB Page and Theresa Woehnker each contributed two assists, while also scoring goals of their own. As a team, the Majors outshot Hendrix 37-25 and picked up 11 more ground balls.
The most outstanding contribution of the day came from senior goalie Madelyn Walker. Walker recorded 11 saves on the game, which brings her to 72 on the season and an overall save percentage of 47.1 percent. In the lacrosse world, it is considered fantastic for goalies to have a save percentage around 50 percent. The fact that Walker did not out-save her Hendrix counterpart (who recorded 13 saves) is a testament to the efficiency of the Majors’ offense.
For her accomplishments, Walker earned the SAA defender of the week title. The women’s lacrosse team’s next home game against Rhodes is March 30 at 4 p.m.
