Ask Emily: A New Feature on the Purple and White!

by Emily Hussey

opinions editor

I became the new opinions editor for The Purple and White approximately a month ago. Eager and excited, I knew that I wanted to revamp the Opinions section of the P&W in some way, but I was not exactly sure how.

I thoroughly enjoy “Dear Coquette,” which is an advice column . If you’ve never heard of it, I highly recommend checking it out. Inspired by “Dear Coquette,” I am happy to announce that I am starting an “Ask Emily” column. Every week, I will be answering at least one question (depending on the depth of the questions submitted) from a reader of The Purple and White. As the opinions editor, I am full of opinions, as you can imagine. You can ask me anything, really— from what I think about the 2016 presidential election to what it is like being a triplet (since I am one, for those who don’t know.) You can even ask me for advice, with the disclaimer that I am in no way qualified to be giving advice. But hey, I’ll give it a shot if you want.

Here are the rules:

  1. The place to ask me questions is emilyopinions.tumblr.com/ask. This is the only place I will be taking questions. Do not e-mail me or comment on this article.
  2. You are welcome to use the “anonymous” feature, but anything inappropriate or mean will be deleted immediately.
  3. Any question goes, within reason. It has to be publishable in The Purple and White. Here’s a good rule: If your grandma can’t read the question, it can’t be published.
  4. I am just trying this out. If I don’t get questions or people are downright mean (as anonymity often encourages), the blog will be deleted and the feature will be cut. The anonymous feature is mostly so those without tumblrs can utilize the column.

I am excited to see how this turns out. So, if there is anything you want to hear me discuss or what to know my perspective on, shoot me a question. It could be answered and published in an upcoming issue of the P&W!
