The Millsaps baseball team played a double header at Oglethorpe Saturday, and the result was anything but close. The Majors combined for a whopping 27 runs en route to defeating the in Petrels back-to-back games with scores of 10-5 and 17-7.

Isaac Glenn and Logan Patterson led the offense in runs with three hits each in the first game. Glenn got the game started with a two-run hit to put the Majors up 2-0, and Millsaps continued to capitalize on Oglethorpe errors with an Annon Etheridge single that brought two more runners home. Smokey Etheridge got the pitching nod for the first seven innings, in which he allowed just one earned run and struck out three batters. Freshman James Perkins closed out the final two innings to secure the win.

In the second matchup of the day, Keith Shumaker pitched a stellar game before James Perkins and Zack Snider relieved him in the fifth inning after the Petrels cut the Majors’ lead down to one. It wasn’t a tight game for long, though. Millsaps broke the game open and scored 17 total runs in a rout of the Petrels.

With this sweep, the Majors advance to an 11-8 conference record, and would hold the number-four seed in the SAA tournament if it started today.
