The Majors Men Soccer team finished last season with a 6-9-3 record. Sophomore Midfielder Tyler Cook believes that this year will be a turnaround season. “We brought in a lot of good freshmen this year,” he says. “We are going to win at least 70 percent of our games.” The team returns its top three scorers from last season in senior Trey Fontaine and sophomores Matt Crooker and Lukas Elmhammer. Charlie Edwards will be this year’s goalkeeper, replacing long-time starter Stephen Andrieu. Javier Garcia, a freshman from Guatemala, has played well early in the season and should be a strong asset to the Majors’ midfield.
The team will play primarily on the road this season, hosting only four games at Harper Davis Field. Cook is excited about this year’s home matchups. “All the home games are going to be great, look for us to play Centre and Birmingham Southern,” Cook says. The Majors are expecting to have a standout season this year. Friday night, they host East Texas Baptist at 7:30 p.m.
