Friday night, the Millsaps Majors men’s basketball team managed to pull off a 71-65 home victory in the Hanger Dome against the Hendrix Warriors. Strong performances from Miles Moore and Joshua McSwain led the Majors to their second conference win of the season. The two freshmen led the team in scoring on the night; Moore had 19 points and McSwain recorded 13. After the game, Moore humbly gave credit to his teammates stating that, “The team is like one big family.1x2mnfuwddhngsk0 courtesy of Millsaps sports information

Although Hendrix scored the first points of the game, the Majors were able to respond quickly and gain a lead that they maintained for the rest of the game. The Majors’ largest lead of the game was 16 points early in the second half. About midway through the second half, Hendrix’ stout defense and full-court press forced the Majors into some bad decisions that led to costly turnovers, bringing the Warriors back within five points. However, due to a strong performance at the free throw line late in the game, shooting 89 percent, the Majors were able to hold on to their lead and win by six.

The win ended a six-game losing streak for the Majors. Freshman Moore said that the team “came out with more energy” and “played more as a team,” and that made the difference compared to the last six games.

The Majors now hope to build on this win and attempt to start their own winning streak with the upcoming home game against rival Rhodes College on Sunday.
