The tennis team’s first match is quickly approaching, and men’s team captain Charles Rees has some specific objectives in mind. Rees’ goals include constant improvement, a winning season and a third place or better finish in the conference—”and I will be a happy man,” he says.

“Two of our best men were seniors last year,” Rees explains. “We are going to have to work hard to fill their shoes, but I know that we can do it.”

Rees emphasizes the need for a good work ethic and a positive attitude in practice. “I think that the key to success for us is team chemistry. Every man on the team plays both singles and doubles, so we have to make sure we are all striving toward the same goal,” he says.

Rees’s excitement about the Feb. 12 season opener at Mississippi College is evident. “We have been hard at work since we got back from break, since our fall season, honestly,” he says. “I can’t wait to see what we will accomplish.”

The men’s tennis team is definitely a team to keep an eye on. If the rest of the team is half as motivated as the captain, they might just get the season Rees hopes for.
