This week in Millsaps History recounts Millsaps’ past and the events that changed how the campus looks today. When The Purple and White began publication in 1908, it covered student’s affairs ranging from academic to social. Through the week of September 27th to October 3rd, we see the construction of two campus sorority lodges as well as a student poll on whether to make dining facilities smoking or non-smoking. All these events signify their time at Millsaps and what our student body was concerned with as a whole.

Twenty-Three 1956 graduates enter Med Schools ranging from Harvard University Medical School to University of Mississippi Medical School

Millsaps has eight international students enrolled for the 49-50 school year, the students are from China, Czechoslovakia, Cuba, Lativa, and Chile respectively

Students vote on designating the dining room as ‘smoking’ or ‘non-smoking’

The National Science Foundation (NSF) awarded Millsaps a grant totaling $384,535 to purchase new instruments for the W.M. Keck Center for Instrumental and Biochemical Comparative Archaeology

October 2, 1997
After suffering two prior losses, the Millsaps football team defeats the Greenville College Panthers with a score of 56-12
October 3, 2002
Over family weekend the Majors won in all four sports competed with a 56-12 victory over South Alabama in football
