Meet the Millsapian: Jordan Hooks

by Courtney Cleveland

Features Editor

Jordan Hooks is a freshman neuroscience and cognitive studies major from Haughton, La. He’s a member of SAE and mock trial, and he plays on the Millsaps soccer team. He’s hoping to form a fashion runway club at Millsaps to put on fashion shows for different occasions and is currently looking for models. In his free time, he enjoys cleaning, eating and sleeping.

The Purple and White: What made you come to Millsaps?

Jordan Hooks: The pre-med program, the pre-health track and soccer.

P&W: What has been your best experience here so far?

JH: Maybe making my first A here in college.

P&W: What’s something that’s holding you back from the person you want to be?

JH: College is really hard. Maybe that’s what it is.

P&W: And it only gets harder…Tell me an embarrassing story about yourself.

JH: There’s so many, I don’t know which one to choose. Well I was walking up the stairs in Student Life and there were like ten people behind me, and I fell up the stairs. Up the stairs… not down. Up.

P&W: Which movie or book do you think is ridiculously overrated?

JH: Twilight. Definitely Twilight.

P&W: What are the best and worst purchases you’ve ever made?

JH: My worst purchase was my Apple watch. I just sold it to my mom for $100 dollars, and I got it for $500. I never wear it. It’s not worth it. My best purchase I ever made were my Birkenstocks.

P&W: If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?

JH: I would probably go to Africa to meet my parent’s ancestors…well my ancestors too.

P&W: What’s an unpopular opinion that you have?

JH: Squirrels are unclean.

P&W: Who was the most interesting teacher you’ve ever had?

JH: Whenever I was a freshman (in high school), I was in English II and it was a sophomore class. She was the first teacher I’ve ever had, and I’ve had her multiple times since then…. But her name is Nicole Ayers and we used to have water gun fights in her class, and she would shoot us with fake bow and arrows.

P&W: What’s your worst example of procrastination?

JH: I waited until the night before to write my Heritage paper.

P&W: Describe yourself in three words.

JH: Fickle, frivolous, and fabulous.
